Church for Jubilee

On Sunday 3rd June, the Deaf Church service at Hayes Deaf club, will be at 11am, not our usual time of 3pm.

Coffee is available from 10.30am.

This is because we will be celebrating the Jubilee! We invite all Deaf and signing people to come to share this special service.

Afterwards, we will have a BRING & SHARE lunch. Please bring a plate of food to put on the buffet table.

In the afternoon, you may stay at the club to watch the River Pageant together on the TV, or  go out to the Deaf Street Party in London.

We’re FAIRTRADE!

Bishop of London presents the Deaf Church wtih Fairtrade Certificates

On Sunday 11th March, the Diocese of London became recognised as a FAIRTRADE DIOCESE

All of the churches, including the DEAF CHURCH, who use and promote Fairtrade products were given certificates. You can see the Bishop here, with some of our members and the certificates. The certificates will be put in each place where we meet for Deaf Church – Hayes Deaf Club; St Saviours, Acton; Holy Trinity, Hounslow; St John’s Deaf Club, Green Lanes; and Enfield Baptist Church.

But what is FairTrade? It is the process of buying goods directly from producers in developing countries at a fair price. When you buy something FairTrade you know you are helping farmers, growers, producers and their communities. It really does make a difference! So the Deaf Church try to use only FairTrade coffee, Tea, Sugar, Chocolate etc. whenever we can.

FUN DAY!

At St John’s Deaf Club, the Church is hosting a Fun Day on Sunday 22nd April, from 2pm. If you would like a poster you can click here: Funday_22April_STJOHNS.

All ages welcome.

Children must be with parent or carer.

There will be games and craft activities.

If you or your child has special needs we should be aware of, please contact Anne on 0781 188 8019.

Course cancelled

I’m very sad to tell you that the Jesus, Past, Present and Future course is CANCELLED. This is because we have not received enough bookings to cover the costs.

We will run the course later in the year.

If you are interested, please contact me. Maybe you can tell me which day and time is best to come to this course?

March news is here!

The March Newsletter is now available to download from the Deaf Church page or just click HERE.

Today is Ash Wednesday, the start of LENT – 40 days when we prepare for Easter.

We remember Jesus in the wilderness.

We remember his journey to Jerusalem.

We remember his death on the cross.

It is a time to think about our own Christian faith and to follow Jesus everyday, through the bad times of life as well as the good.

It is easy to follow Jesus when your life is going to plan.

But if you are ill? If you are coping with feelings of depression or anger? If your friends let you down? If you lose your job? Or if life is hard for many other reasons- how do we follow Jesus then?  What do you think? Write your comment on the page!!

February newsletter out now

The February newsletter is available to download on the Deaf Church page.

Also, please put these dates in your diary:

Sunday 11th March- 6pm. St Pauls Cathedral. You are invited to join the Bishop of London for a service of celebration and thanksgiving as the Diocese of London is declared a Fairtrade Diocese. BSL interpreters will be there.

Holy Week & Easter Events will be on the next newsletter, but please keep Good Friday free (the Passion Play will be in Trafalgar Square again on Friday 5th April);  Holy Saturday (6th April) when we join with St Pauls Cathedral to celebrate the beginning of Easter, and ofcourse Easter Sunday events on 7th April.

Deaf Day is on Saturday 14th April at City Lit, near Holborn tube station. We’ve booked a table and will be there all day. If you’d like to help out on the stall, please let me know.

On Sunday 13th May, 3pm to mark the end of Deaf Awareness week, we are going to St Pauls Cathedral for a service of Evensong. The preacher will be Phil Maddocks, who has been part of Deaf ministry for many years. I am hoping we will be able to have Deaf people taking part in the service, and maybe the SHINE choir. If you’d like to be involved, let me know. I’m also hoping to find a venue we can go to afterwards for social time. If you know of somewhere handy, please contact me!

You may remember I told you about the Pilgrimage to the Holy Land in BSL, 9-18th October 2012. There are still spaces available. Have a look at the website http://www.mccabe-travel.co.uk/Destinations/Holy-Land.html to give you an idea about what’s included. If you’d be interested in joining in, contact McCabe Pilgrimages, through their website and ask them to send you a booking form. I also have a few forms in the office.

Everyone’s welcome. All events are open. Please come along!
